Call for Entries for 2014 STC Summit Awards

STC Rochester is holding its annual Summit Awards Competition, open to all national members. Please consider the work done throughout the year and submit an entry that you feel deserves to be recognized as an excellent example of Technical Communication. STC Rochester is accepting entries through October 31, 2014.

Submit your best work this year (or a colleague, or a subordinate) and compete for multiple grades of distinction in the following categories:




User Support

Annual Reports, Technical Reports, Articles, Books, and Periodicals

Tutorials and Training Materials

Brochures, Catalogs, Flyers, and Websites

Including Help, Job Aids, Quick Reference Guides, Reference Materials, and User Guides



-Your entries must contain enough technical, scientific, or medical knowledge to be considered technical communication;

-Either be either made, or substantially revised for a client, employer, or an independent technical publication in the calendar year preceding September 1st, 2014;

-Must not contain classified or proprietary information, and be suitable for public display.

The Process:

Fill out an STC Rochester Submission Form 2014. Web-based or electronic submission should be noted on the form.

Submit your application to the competition website and pay the submission fee.

Deliver your submission by Dropbox, by mail, or delivery to the STC Rochester. (Instructions for submitting to Dropbox can be found on the submission form). Submissions must be entered by October 15th, 2014.

Entries accepted from: October 1, 2014
Entry deadline: October 31, 2014 till 5:00 p.m.
Fees per entry:

Member – STC Rochester chapter    $75
Member – Another STC chapter    $85
Non-member    $100
Student    $40
Payment is by credit card. If payment is made by check, make payable to STC Rochester and submit with mailed in entry or, if entry is submitted electronically, mail check to Jan Peartree, Novatek Communications, 500 Helendale Road, Suite 280, Rochester, NY 14609. Write “ATTN: STC Rochester” on the envelope.

Note: The entry tickets go on sale on October 1st, 2014 at 12: a.m.

If any contributor on a group entry is an STC member, that entry qualifies for the applicable member rate.

The Awards:

Winners will be announced at the annual STC Rochester Spectrum Conference.

* One framed certificate will be presented for each winning entry. If an entry has multiple contributors, one certificate will be printed listing the names of all contributors. To receive multiple framed certificates please contact ( to arrange payment of $20 per certificate.

There are three levels of distinction in every category: Merit, Excellence, and Distinguished Technical Communication. A Best of Show honor will be awarded to one Distinguished Technical Communication from any of the four categories.

STC will cover the cost to enter the International Society of Technical Communications competition for Distinguished Technical Communication award winners only.
