The Division of Development and Alumni Relations is strategically critical to the mission and goals of RIT. We are a team-oriented, high-energy environment that works with all areas of the university to increase the involvement of alumni and other friends in the life of RIT. Our primary goal is to maximize fundraising opportunities and alumni involvement on behalf of the university.
Brief Description
The Executive Director of Communications and New Media is responsible for crafting and coordinating the communication messages and execution plans for the Division of Development and Alumni Relations.
Detailed Description
The Executive Director’s work encompasses external communication with primary constituents of alumni, donors, and prospects, along with internal communication within the Division. Communication strategies involve all vehicles including, but not limited to, Web, alumni online community, direct mail, printed proposals and development collateral materials, invitations, videos, speech writing, and social media. This professional serves as a leader of the Division, but is also a hands-on contributor to the work of the team.
Positions reporting to the Executive Director include: Director of Development Communication; Senior Associate Director of the Fund for RIT; Electronic Communications Specialist; Web Development Specialist. A part-time Graphic Designer and student workers complete the team.
Major Responsibilities : Serves as a member of the Division’s Leadership Team, working collaboratively with colleagues in support of the mission of the Division and of the university. Coordinates and guides the work of the six-member communications team, encouraging consistent messaging, concept development, and collaboration across functions. Hires, trains, manages, and mentors permanent, temporary and student employees.
Develops metrics for and tracks progress toward communication objectives. Works collaboratively with the university’s Chief Communications Officer and other communication professionals across campus. Personally plans and implements strategies focused on electronic outreach to alumni, including a monthly e-newsletter; regional chapter, college-focused, reunion and alumni benefits announcements; Fund for RIT solicitations in coordination with Fund Executive Director; surveys; and correspondence related to Institute objectives.
Supports the communication requirements for all fundraising and donor stewardship activities. Manages special communication initiatives for the President or Vice President as requested. These may include development of an annual report, President’s Letter, economic impact report, or the like. Oversees the development and maintenance of all Division of Development and Alumni Relations Web sites and e-commerce initiatives. Manages, in coordination with the Office of the Vice President, the internal monthly electronic newsletter Tiger Talk . Serves on the editorial board of RIT: The University Magazine and has direct oversight of the Class Notes section of the publication. Serves as a liaison to the Alumni Association Board of Directors and facilitates Communications Committee meetings.
