Job Description

Copywriter is responsible for drafting, editing, and proofing various print- and web-based communications directed at internal and external audiences. Communications must adhere to corporate messaging and style guidelines. Responsible for development of communications for all audiences on a corporate level. Collaborates with various departments and teams to carry out the communications tactics identified in various communication plans, which often require working with tight deadlines. Work with segment managers to deliver appropriate communications based on internal and external market needs.

Primary Responsibility

Develops communications for all corporate audiences not limited to letters, newsletters, promotional materials, employee communications, marketing communications, intranet and Internet, and ad hoc and routine communications. Works with appropriate contacts in the Communications Department to write, edit, and/or review content. Works with the Communications Department supervisor to ensure consistent messaging across all communication vehicles. Ensures consistent messaging and adherence to formatting, presentation, branding, and writing standards per the company’s style guide. Increases customer understanding and satisfaction through presenting complex content in a simplified manner. Supports the Communications Department, external stakeholders, and internal strategic business units and other corporate departments. Ensures branding initiatives comply with BlueCross BlueShield Association guidelines when applicable. Works effectively and collaboratively with company employees at all levels to ensure communication plans and messages reflect the business and communication needs of the organization. Works with content owners to ensure accurate and factual content of all communications. Supports HealthNow websites to reflect the latest news and initiatives in order to improve customer education, perception, and overall satisfaction. Performs other related duties as required.

Knowledge and Skills

Must have excellent oral and interpersonal skills. Must be detail oriented and possess the ability to think critically. Ability to work independently in fast-paced environment and handle multiple responsibilities and changing priorities within a tight timeframe. Ability to work effectively with all levels of employees. Proficient with Windows environment and Microsoft programs, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Experience with web editing applications is an asset. Candidate must be willing to learn additional PC skills Excellent verbal and writing skills. Must have experience writing persuasive/promotional communications. Experience writing for the web is beneficial. Must work effectively as a team player. Must be proficient in English.


Minimum of two (2) years experience preferably in communications, marketing, journalism, or health care insurance industry is preferred.
