Sustainable production systems, energy, mobility and the built environment are the focus of interdisciplinary academic and research programs within Golisano Institute for Sustainability (GIS), whose mission is to undertake world-class education and research programs in these areas. Golisano Institute for Sustainability, founded in 2007, is a world leader in promoting sustainability through education, research and partnering with industry. These programs are led by a multidisciplinary team of faculty and researchers who collaborate with organizations locally, nationally, and globally to create implementable solutions to complex sustainability problems. The Center for Integrated Manufacturing Studies, which was established in 1992, is the technology development and transfer arm of GIS, with a focus on increasing competitiveness of manufacturers through applied technology and training.

Detailed Job Description:

The Director of Technical Training will manage training program development, execute business development activities, and design and develop marketing plans to be offered to industrial manufacturing companies on a global scale.

The Manager will also be responsible for strengthening existing business relationships and developing new business opportunities. Training Programs to be promoted include the following general manufacturing topic areas of current GIS-CIMS focus and expertise:

Sustainable Design and Manufacturing
Energy Systems
Industrial Productivity

Major Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and monitor technical training programs
  • Conduct market research in select industrial sectors
  • Develop contact lists of industrial companies which may be candidates for training
  • Initiate personal contact with companies to determine their training needs
  • Develop necessary presentations and training materials
  • Prepare well-focused proposals and budgets to meet sponsor’s training requirements
  • Successfully market RIT’s expertise in meeting customers’ needs for technical training
  • Set performance metrics and create testing and evaluation processes
  • Accomplish business development activities by researching and developing marketing opportunities and plans
  • Develop and implement annual plans to ensure year-over-year growth for GIS-CIMS training programs

Marketing and Sales Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement industrial training marketing strategy
  • Analyze marketing opportunities by identifying customer requirements, defining the market, and forecasting projected business needs
  • Formulate plans for utilization of GIS-CIMS staff and facilities for industrial education and training
  • Develop marketing materials which may include promotional materials, website content, etc.
  • Represent GIS-CIMS at industry tradeshows, events, and focus group meetings
  • Establish and maintain relationships with industries, organizations, associations, and other important stakeholders

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum 5-7 years of experience in development and marketing training (industrial training a plus)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, as well as public speaking skills
  • Ability to effectively work under tight deadlines and manage projects independently
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain strong customer relationships
  • Financial management experience
  • Excellent people skills and an enthusiastic attitude
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to travel as needed
