Managing Your Online Presence

When you’re on Facebook, do you post a status update on what you had for breakfast or how much the ending of Lost still confuses you? Why not use Social Media to have prospective employers notice you online? How about managing your own online presence, optimizing your visibility, and increasing your “digital footprint”?

Managing your online presence was explored in a presentation by Hannah Morgan at the November meeting, jointly hosted by STC Rochesterand Genesee Valley ASTD at the Golisano Center on the Nazareth College campus. Hannah, a career strategist and founder of CareerSherpa.net, offered several strategies for growing your own network by more effectively using the popular social media sites of LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, and blogs.

Emphasizing that “you control your own visibility”, Hannah gave tips and tricks for getting yourself to appear on the first page of a Google search and for monitoring yourself and others. A lively and informative question-and-answer session rounded out the evening.
