Part-Time Grant Writer – NTID/RIT – Rochester NY

Detailed Job Description:

This is a part-time 20-hour position in the National Technical Institute for the Deaf.

The Grant Writer will be responsible for working collaboratively with appropriate faculty, staff and institute leadership in developing and submitting proposals, as assigned by the NTID Senior Director of Development and Alumni Relations, with the goal of securing gifts of $10,000 and up. He/she will also be responsible for working with project PIs in submitting grant reports as required by grant making organizations. The Grant Writer should be proactive in identifying potential funding opportunities, and should actively engage faculty and staff in the pursuit of funding for research, scholarship and other programs and activities supporting the goals and objectives set forth in NTIDs Strategic Vision 2020.

He/she will work collaboratively with the NTID Senior Director of Development, NTID Assistant Director of Development, NTID Director of Alumni and Constituent Relations, and appropriate RIT-based fundraising staff (Corporate and Foundation Relations, Communications, etc.) in the grant writing and submission process.  The Grant Writer will report to the NTID Senior Director of Development & Alumni Relations.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum 3-year track record of successful fundraising or work in a communications-based field
  • Excellent writing skills
  • High degree of computer literacy
  • Sophisticated interpersonal and conversational communication skills
  • Fluency in American Sign Language and familiarity with Deaf culture
  • Candidates who are not fluent in American Sign Language must commence learning immediately and be able to demonstrate such proficiency within two years of hire
  • Prior fundraising experience in higher education
  • High level of energy plus demonstrated initiative and flexibility
  • Experience with Advance software or other CRM database
