The Technical Proposal Writer is responsible for interviewing technical and managerial subject matter experts and converting their concepts into compelling text for proposals, marketing materials, reports and presentations. The focus of this position is creating text for government proposals. Will work as part of a team of professionals throughout the proposal development process to draft outlines, conduct research, draft responses, edit text, and ensure the overall quality and consistency of all elements of the proposal. To succeed in this position, the technical writer will need to display exceptional writing and editing skills and expertise with government proposals. Required attributes include attention to detail, effective time management and ability to meet deadlines, discipline, diplomacy, rigor, teamwork curiosity, and creativity. This individual gives documents, used internally and externally a professional look and assures the documents meet the appropriate style and approved format. This individual will report to the Manager of Proposals & Publications and can be based in either Rochester, NY or Roanoke, VA.

Duties include:

  • Work with the respective technical and management teams to prepare compliant and compelling US Government proposal responses. Takes the lead in writing and/or compiling sections of the text.
  • Prepare both internal and external presentations, marketing materials, reports, articles and white papers
  • Participate in final reviewing and editing of proposals to ensure consistency of voice and appearance.
  • Review, edit, and rewrite technical specifications.
  • Update ISO and ANSI procedures and maintain document repositories.
  • Prepare PowerPoint presentations
  • Adhere to corporate branding guidelines and customer/internal format requirements when creating, revising, and editing documents

Experience Requirements

  • 5+ years experience in technical writing, editing, and proof reading required
  • 2+ years experience writing government proposals required
    Bachelors degree highly desired
  • Demonstrated ability to understand technical concepts and describe them in writing required
  • Proficiency with MS Word and MS PowerPoint required
  • Knowledge of design and publishing software (such as Adobe Creative Suite products including InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) desired
  • Excellent skill in writing, editing, formatting, research and oral communications
  • Ability to work with others to create and edit technical reports, proposals, and other technical documents
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and to work under pressure required
