Senior Technical Writer – AVOX (Zodiac Aerospace), Lancaster NY (Buffalo Area)

General Statement:

Responsibilities include the accurate and timely preparation of technical publications in support of AVOX products.  Publications shall include, but not be limited to: Component Maintenance Manuals (CMM’s), Service Bulletins (SB), Service Information Letters (SIL), Product Information Sheets, Instruction Sheets, Catalog Sheets, Training Materials, Proposals and Brochures.   Documents shall be prepared from Engineering drawings, Acceptance Test Procedures, Engineering Test Reports and Manufacturing Operation Sheets or other data supplied by the responsible person.

  • Participate in and maintain an active role as an Engineering team member understanding that tasks not specifically documented herein may be assigned based on individual expertise and overall needs of the project team.
  • Interact with and support Zodiac Services, OEM’s and airlines as necessary to determine documentation requirements and maintain revision control and respond to worldwide inquiries about technical documentation.
  • Monitor and follow priorities for completion of requested data based on input from Program Management, Sales and Business Development to meet our customer requirements and coordinate this information with Zodiac Services Europe for completion.
  • Monitor and follow priority for updating and revising documents based on the specific requirements and inputs including the review of engineering drawing changes and manufacturing process changes for inclusion in documentation.
  • Prepare artwork and illustrations for use in documents as necessary using engineering source data.
  • Prepare publications in conformance to applicable specifications including Air Transport Association (ATA) and military specifications.
  • Support proposal preparation as necessary.
  • Coordinate the review and approval of documents with appropriate team members including the coordination of verification procedures for documents such as CMMs, Instruction Sheets, etc.
  • Establish, maintain and distribute Technical Publications Index, in accordance with ATA Specifications for the AVOX product lines.
  • Organize and develop structured authoring techniques for easy reuse of standard sections.

Qualifications: Education –

Required – Associate Degree in Mechanical Engineering

Preferred – Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering


Required – 5 years Technical Writer or Engineer.

Preferred – 10 years Technical Writer or Engineer.

Special Knowledge/Skills

Required – Working knowledge of Air Transport Association (ATA) iSpec 2200 and associated industry and military specifications. Possess a solid mechanical engineering background and skill at reading blueprints.  Good communicator with excellent writing skills and command of the English language including grammar. The ability to convey complex information in an easily understood manner is a plus.  Possess computer software skills including the use of desktop publishing, word processing and graphics software.

Preferred – Familiar with AVOX products.
