Senior Writer/Editor – University at Buffalo

The senior writer/editor is a professional position within the Division of Academic Affairs, Office of Marketing and Communications.

The senior writer/editor works under the management of the director of marketing and communications to develop strategic communications that advance the goals of the units in the Division of Academic Affairs and the University. Particular focus is given to attracting and retaining high-caliber, diverse students and to enhancing the overall image of UB as a regional and national leader in higher education.

The individual will act as a project point of contact, managing projects from start to finish including background research and identification of project scope, planning, organizing, interviewing, writing, editing, art direction, distribution, follow-up and evaluation. The content created will be used across multiple platforms including print publications, websites, events and social media channels. The individual will act as a liaison between involved parties such as Undergraduate Admissions, University Communications, freelance providers and various vendors.

The position requires superb organizational skills with the strength to manage multiple projects simultaneously and the ability to work closely with divisional leaders to understand and shape their marketing and communication solutions. It also requires close interaction with campus and external partners.

In all situations the individual will be expected to provide thoughtful, superior customer service and to build and sustain strong working relationships with our constituents. Internally, the individual will be a consistent communicator and team player.

Minimum Qualifications
-Bachelor’s degree
-Three to five years of relevant professional experience
-Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, including an ability to adapt tone and style for different media and target audiences
-Proven editorial planning and copy editing skills
-High digital literacy (writing for the Web, SEO, social media, CMS)
-Familiarity with Adobe InDesign and Photoshop
-Familiarity with CRM email and event management systems
-Demonstrated close knowledge of Associated Press style
-Demonstrated proficiency in project management

Preferred Qualifications
-Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Marketing or closely related fields
-Higher education experience
-Knowledge of emerging technologies
-Familiarity with technical writing
-Event communication and support
