Location:  Albany, NY, and own offices

Rate:  $45 – 60 per hour

For our client, we are seeking technical authors to work for a Government Health Services account developing documentation to support the Software Development Life Cycle of a large health services system.

This role would be responsible for the design, development, integration, and delivery of the deliverables as directed by the project team.


The following is the required and desired skill set for this role along with a list of tasks and deliverables to be developed during the period of the contract.

Required Skills

  • 10+ years as a professional technical writer working in technical software and hardware environments.
  • Demonstrated experience developing software development life cycle documentation for large-scale, complex systems preferably in a Government and/or Health Care environment.
  • Excellent English writing skills and ability to adapt to client’s writing style and standards.
  • Absolute attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication, organization, planning, scheduling, troubleshooting, problem-solving, and tracking skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Independent and proactive self-starter.
  • Ability to review and write content from specifications as needed.
  • Comfort with and ability to adapt to swiftly changing schedules, updated priorities in support of development cycles and schedules.
  • Ability to work in an Agile development environment
  • Experience using Microsoft Word and Visio

Deliverables and Tasks

  • Design, develop, integrate, and deliver technical content to support the software development life cycle for large scale, complex systems in the government health care space
  • Create/edit documents to provide a quality product with professional output
  • Develop and manage documentation delivery schedules based on high-level program schedules provided.
  • Work with and respond to feedback provided by editors.
  • Coordinate and communicate all activities and schedules with internal Project Managers.
  • Coordinate with other writers assigned to deliverables to ensure consistency in look, feel, and terminology.
  • Attend all project-related engineering development team meetings, as required.
  • Interview and communicate with subject matter experts to ensure comprehension of all features.

The primary target audience is the State Government entity that is the customer for the system solution.  Presentation of accurate, complete, comprehensive, and professional documentation is a requirement.

All materials must adhere to the client’s style for formatting, style, logos, and terminology as required by the delivery team and the customer.
