A Technical Communications Team Lead requires a diverse, cross-functional skill set, including the ability to:

  • Lead a team of technical communication specialist and vendors to create complex, technical, and marketing content, such as user manuals, Elearning online help, service documentation, web content, training materials, storyboards, and marketing communications materials.
  • Use complex authoring and content management systems such as Frame+SGML (structured), RoboHelp, Xmetal, Workflow, Captivate, InDesign, and Documentum.
  • Create complex, technical, and marketing content, such as user manuals, e-learning, online help, service documentation, web content, training materials, storyboards, and marketing communications materials.
  • Verbalize, follow, and champion company-required standards such as branding, trademarks, regulatory, IT, and company web site requirements. Address non-adherence occurrences.
  • Work on multiple projects to often in parallel, aggressive deadlines.
  • Edit/QA content for adherence to TCL standards requirements for all projects, including those for software, web, and documentation, with the ability to navigate multiple file formats, including web sites, compiled Help, formatted technical and marketing documentation, and training. Champion the improvement of technical communications practices. Coach other writers on adherence to these standards.
  • Partner with multiple worldwide team members, including contractors, vendors, remote non-TCL writers, and remote SMEs for the same project.
  • Communicate and monitor schedule and budget needs. Proactively communicate and troubleshoot barriers, delays, or priority changes as needed.
  • Assess needs and build in requirements related to worldwide simultaneous product launches to multiple countries for effective delivery including usability, cycle time/quality/cost. Includes skill at writing for localization.
  • Forecast budgets and schedules for all project cycles within the commercialization process, including project scope and deliverables, collecting content, review cycles, corrective action, localization, production, and output cycles.

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Team lead experience (business project management experience, managing budgets & schedules)
  • 7 plus years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience with structured, unstructured, and topic-level content creation (example… structured Frame, SGML, XML, etc. – DITA Desired)
  • Project and Vendor management experience.
  • Documentation and training experience desired.
  • Experience writing for localization
  • A high proficiency in technical writing and communications best practices or the ability to adapt very quickly to content creation and content management processes.
  • Experience using a component level content management system (Documentation desired)
  • Experience creating and managing content in a regulated industry is desired
  • The ability to translate the relevant commercialization business needs and the documentation target audience needs into a delivery strategy that supports the business’ knowledge management strategy.
  • The possession of exceptional verbal and written communication skills to facilitate interaction with cross-cultural and cross-geographic teams.
  • The possession of exceptional leadership skills to allow one to work projects across multiple management levels and product areas
  • Comprehension of workflow and content management systems and the ability to work within the most complex of each.
  • The ability to analyze and interpret data and to develop creative solutions.
  • The ability to initiate and lead change as required during project life cycles.
  • The possession of highly proficient editorial skills, attention to detail, and a quality assurance mentality with the ability to identify and mark copy for corrective action.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to organize work schedules for multiple subject-matter-experts.
  • A team player who is energetic and able to work in an intense environment.
