About the Position:

This position is with the US Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District, P3M Branch, Environmental Project Management Section. The incumbent will serve as a Technical Writer-Editor.

DUTIES:

This position will review and edit all information from technical team members and other report contributors for content, organization, accuracy, consistency, literary quality, and format contributors for content, organization, accuracy, consistency, literary quality, and format in accordance with changing regulations and standards. The incumbent will be required to utilize desktop publishing hardware and software and other electronic publishing software, text editing software, and multi-media presentation software to edit documents.

The incumbent of this position will serve as a Technical Writer-Editor with responsibility for writing, editing, reviewing and publishing engineering documents, presentations, outreach material and correspondence. The position will provide technical writing support in fields related to risk assessment, engineering, health physics, and cost analysis and transform highly scientific and technical documentation into easily understandable language ensuring consistency across the District.


QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Experience required:

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).  You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job.  Specialized experience is defined as: reviewing complex reports for use by program and agency managers; clearly and accurately write and format manuals and guidelines; and examine existing publications for clarity of expression, logical arrangement, validity of conclusions and adherence to policy.  This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service GS-09.

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, abilities) in the following areas:

  • Technology
  • Skill in effective communication

  • Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree, or
