Detailed Job Description: Under general supervision, the research analyst/technical writer will have the ability to produce quality reports, articles, proposals and other supporting documents to communicate detailed technical information.

The writer will be required to quickly grasp complex technical concepts in order to make them easily understandable and appropriate for the intended audience. Writer will work closely with the GIS director, engineers, marketing teams, researchers and other staff to develop technical, marketing and media communications used by the department. Position reports to Manager of Program Development.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Compose and write technical articles, grant proposals, and reports. Must be proficient in researching, interpreting and analyzing diverse, technical and scientific data
  • Assist teams of engineers and researchers with proposal writing and technical presentations
  • Support multi-entity proposal development and report preparation

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Edit, clarify, and proofread all GIS documents;
  • Format and edit materials developed by others to ensure continuity of style and content
  • Compose and write copy for marketing materials including brochures, press releases, tradeshow displays, web site content, blogs, etc.
  • Collect, compile and organize articles featuring Golisano Institute for Sustainability and its research centers
  • Maintain historical files of information relating to the department from internal and external sources

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Must have direct experience, specifically in the three areas noted below:
    • Coordinating and compiling scientific and/or technical information from principal investigators and/or researchers for research grant proposals;
    • Planning, developing and writing special reports, studies, summaries and analyses that are scientific and technical in nature
    • Writing as part of a proposal team for a highly competitive, technical and complex research grant proposals/applications.
