Position Summary

Responsibilities are to the Technical Writing department at the Fairport, NY location.  Contributing position working closely with Product Management, Engineering, Technical Support and Marcom to ensure a smooth, fast and complete development of professional technical documentation. Position also includes supervisory responsibility involving assignment of work packages, department resource planning and tracking, and strategic process improvement initiatives.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, and write highly technical information that describes the functions of Intrusion security systems.
  • Write installation, configuration, and operations documentation in a consistent manner using department processes and style guide.
  • Use multilingual templates for installation guides and other documents requiring multiple languages.
  • Use a controlled English vocabulary to write for translation.
  • Create graphical images and diagrams for inclusion in documentation.
  • Interview Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to gather technical content, and involve those SMEs in the documentation review process.
  • Prepare documents for print production.
  • Plan, assign, and track work packages for the technical writing department.
  • Lead and guide technical writing team for continual improvement and professional development.

Minimum:  Associates degree in Communications, Engineering or related technical field
Preferred:  Bachelors Degree in Communications, Engineering or related technical field

Minimum of two years supervisory experience
Minimum of five years technical writing experience

Special Skills

Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills are required. Ability to work independently and manage a project from start to finish. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, tight deadline environment.  Proficiency in MS Word, InDesign, FrameMaker, Freehand, Illustrator, and Photoshop is preferred.
