Job Summary: 

The Center for Development of Human Services (CDHS) SUNY Buffalo State is seeking an experienced Child Welfare Training and Development Specialist who, in conjunction with the duties below, works both independently and in a team setting to create and deliver quality classroom and web-based trainings.

Essential functions of the job:

Responsibilities: 

 

  • Presentation of specific training courses within the CDHS child welfare training program, which may include:
    • Common Core; Core Essential Skills for Experienced Caseworkers
    • Child Protective Services (CPS) Response Training; CPS Foundation Training Part 1 and Part 2; Supervising CPS; Office of Prevention of Domestic Violence Training for CPS
    • Safety and Risk Refresher; Critical Thinking; On-Call for Non­CPS workers
    • Family Assessment Response (FAR);
    • Synchronous web-based trainings (WBTs)
    • Special Topics as needs arise
  • Management and facilitation of all aspects of classroom training, including:
    • Leading/managing small group processing
    • Facilitating both small and large fishbowl sessions, including monitoring of group dynamics
    • Providing technical support to trainees, supervisors, and other trainers with regard to WBTs
  • Provision of coaching-related activities, including:
    • Providing written feedback to new caseworkers and their supervisors
    • Providing peer coaching of training deliverables
    • Mentoring and coaching new child welfare trainers
    • Facilitating conferences at various districts/agencies to help identify trainee strengths and needs, and to coach supervisors in the development of professional development plans for their caseworkers
  • Administrative tasks related to training courses, including:
    • Tracking online training attendance
    • Completing documentation of attendance for classes
    • Facilitating completion of training evaluations
    • Tracking time spent on specified work-related activities
  • Miscellaneous collaborative activities, including:
    • Participating in professional development activities to enhance performance
    • Discussing strengths and areas for improvement with regard to training materials and deliverables with colleagues via the Training Improvement Process (TIP)
    • Serving as a content expert, including assisting in writing, revising, and/or editing curriculum using a continual review and feedback process with relevant CDHS units
    • Collaborating with relevant CDHS units to ensure that training deliverables/materials are aligned with the sponsor’s (OCFS’s) expectations
  • Timely submission of mandated documentation (e.g., timesheets, travel reimbursement materials, etc.)
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

 

  • Required:
    • Master’s degree in Human Services-related field with five years of experience in the Child Welfare field, OR a Bachelor’s degree with seven years of experience
      • Experience encompasses the planning, implementation, training, and/or operation of a Human Services-related program; Expertise in training, facilitation, and coaching related to group processes, supervision, and professional development; Curriculum development principles and processes, including e-learning; and Work with diverse populations.
    • A broad working knowledge of Child Welfare Services as it relates to training and organizational development
    • Excellent communication skills
    • Ability to demonstrate skills that advance learning in a classroom setting
    • Proficient in the use of computers and software programs
  • Preferred:
    • A minimum of three years of experience in Child Protective Services, which may include On-call CPS work

 

Physical requirements:  Ability to:

  • Stand for long periods of time
  • Independently carry heavy training equipment and materials
  • Set up training rooms independently

Travel Requirements:  Travel comprises approximately 25% of the position’s time.
