User Experience Specialist, MediSked, LLC – Rochester, NY

The User Experience Specialist will work directly with product managers, software engineering leads, and client/partners stakeholders to design, validate, and implement new features/enhancements across the MediSked software suite. The ideal candidate will possess strong creative and technical skills, a passion and eye for web design and usability, as well as the ability to work collaboratively and professionally with colleagues and clients.

Primary, day-to-day responsibilities include:
  • Implementing and overseeing MediSked’s user centered design thinking and accessibility centered design principles
  • Ensuring all MediSked platforms demonstrate a consistent, best-in-class user interface
  • Defining and managing the rollout of a next-generation user interface across all MediSked products – optimized for web/mobile devices and designed for efficiency, ease of use, and accessibility for all user types
  • Synthesizing market research and platform usage metrics to make data-driven product recommendations
  • Driving user research and testing activities to validate design recommendations
  • Documenting detailed UX standards and functionality requirements for consumption by internal MediSked resources during feature development, testing, documentation, and training
The User Experience Specialist, based in MediSked’s Rochester, NY office, will report to the Director of Product Strategy and Design.
Define and implement organizational best practices for user centered design (UCD) and accessibility centered design principles:
  • Take initiative to conduct, evaluate, and prioritize client and partner feedback; lead internal and external collaborative workshops to introduce and gather feedback for new features and user interface designs
  • Define requirements for meeting accessibility requirements (e.g. WCAG 2.0, Section 508 compliance); working with product managers, establish and manage roadmap to implement necessary updates
  • Participate in external meetings to gather requirements from clients and users
Develop and maintain internal standards for user interface consistency and drive the design and implementation of MediSked’s next-generation user experience:
  • Develop and maintain platform style guides (UX standards documentation) across web and mobile products, support development team in building reusable code, libraries, and templates
  • Work closely with internal/external graphic design resources to enforce MediSked brand consistency across corporate/community sites as well as all MediSked platforms
  • Collaborate with MediSked Product Managers and other stakeholders to identify, evaluate and/or prototype new platform features; support development team in designing and creating functional, high-fidelity prototypes
  • Implement responsive, accessible design principles across the MediSked platform portfolio and support product managers in defining the product roadmap for future versions of products
  • Ensure the technical feasibility of UI/UX designs, and work closely with web and mobile engineers to ensure reliable and consistent user experiences are built on resilient, performant back-end technology
  • Take online products and features from testing to live launch: review new features and improvements during engineering/QA cycles to ensure released items adhere to style guides and the provided visual requirements
Working independently and with the support of other MediSked discipline leads, synthesize market research and client/user data to make data-driven recommendations for product and feature enhancements:
  • Implement tools to capture and analyze web analytics and user activity; distill and report on usage metrics and trends; leverage data to guide new platform features and enhance the user experience
  • In collaboration with product managers, develop and maintain personas, user scenarios, and workflow diagrams; conduct and communicate competitor and customer analyses
  • Conduct formal usability testing, required for third-party software certifications and in support of MediSked UCD principles: recruit participants, lead sessions, and document results in Common Industry Format (CIF) usability test reports
  • Present functional prototypes during collaborative workshops, focus groups and formative testing sessions; and explain research results when necessary
  • Great teamwork, communication, collaboration, and presentation skills
  • Proven design and problem-solving skills
  • Ability and passion to pick up new technologies and stay on the cutting edge of development / design
  • Experience with JavaScript, CSS, and HTML
  • Experience using tools such as JIRA, Confluence, and InVision
  • Advanced skills in Adobe Illustrator (and Photoshop)
  • Experience designing for, and facilitating implementation of mobile-optimized, responsive design frameworks (e.g. Bootstrap)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced, high intensity environment
  • Bachelor’s degree (or current progress toward degree) required
  • The following are not required, but definitely a plus:
  • Development with .NET languages, C# and VB
  • Experience implementing accessible web-design standards
  • Experience with JAWS screen reader
  • Focused experience performing self-directed formal user testing and user research activities
  • Strong visual/graphic design skills
