This letter was written by Lori Meyer when she served as membership manager of the Rochester Chapter. Lori served as President in 2021-2022 and was elected to the STC Board in 2022. It has been updated to reflect Lori’s new role and add the dates of awards the chapter has since won.
Hello! As a member of this community for more than 30 years, I continue to be impressed by its strong and consistent presence as a valuable resource for technical communicators in upstate New York.
In spite of the economic turmoil of recent years, we remain a vibrant community. We have been recognized as a Platinum Community for every year from 2015 to 2021. In 2013, 2015, and 2019, 2020, and 2021we were named the STC Community of the Year. We received Pacesetter Awards in 2012 and 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021.
Like all communities in STC, we want to keep building our membership base and continue to generate interest in participating in the only professional association dedicated to the theory and practice of technical communication. We hope to welcome many new members to the Rochester chapter in the coming months.
But our success isn’t just about numbers. It’s about community. It’s about the bond among technical communication professionals that strengthens us all. It’s about being proud of who we are and what we do. It’s about advocating for both our profession and for one another. It’s about building — building our skills, our fellowship, our leadership, our commitment to the best that our profession offers.
All of this matters because every member matters — whether you joined STC 30 years ago or 30 seconds ago, and no matter what your job title, employment status, or level of skill and experience. We wouldn’t have a chapter without you!
Our chapter president and our administrative council are working hard on goals that will give you the value you expect and deserve from your professional community. You’ll be hearing more about upcoming programs throughout the year, as we continue building a great future based on a proud history.
If you have any questions about your membership, our chapter membership manager is available at membership@stc-rochester.org. And if you’re a technical communicator reading this who is not a member, we hope you’ll accept our invitation to attend our events and get to know us.
Thanks for the opportunity to serve our chapter this year. I look forward to another year in which all of us can work together to build great programs, great skills, great networks, great leaders, and great tomorrows.
With warm regards,
Lori Meyer
